Projects
The Northern Ireland Piping and Drumming School (NIPDS) offers a wide range of inclusive and high-quality music education programmes focused on the traditional arts of piping, drumming, and associated disciplines. Operating from centres in Lisburn, Enniskillen, and Dungannon—with additional outreach in primary and special schools—NIPDS provides weekly in-person classes and online tuition to accommodate learners of all ages and abilities.
Programmes are structured into eight progressive grades, covering both theory and practical performance. The curriculum includes solo and band piping, snare, bass, and tenor drumming etc.
NIPDS supports formal accreditation through PDQB (SQA), LCM, and GCSE-level performance exams, and prepares learners for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award skills section. Courses are available for beginners, competitive players, and those training to become certified tutors.
Annual external examinations ensure quality and progression.
Whether a student seeks to master their instrument, compete at international level, or simply enjoy the cultural and personal enrichment of music, NIPDS offers a welcoming and structured environment for growth, achievement, and community engagement.
NIPDS Presentation Nights
Twice a year, NIPDS hosts Presentation Nights to celebrate student progress and achievement. These vibrant events showcase solo and group performances, highlight examination successes, and honour dedication through awards. Families, friends, and the wider community are invited to enjoy an evening of music, talent, and cultural appreciation.
Drum Majoring
NIPDS has introduced Drum Majoring classes to expand opportunities in traditional marching arts. These classes develop leadership, musical timing, and precision, while enhancing students’ confidence and performance skills. Suitable for all levels, the programme supports progression to national standards and complements our existing piping and drumming curriculum.
Performances
NIPDS students have exciting opportunities to join piping, drumming, and drum majoring bands that perform and compete locally and internationally. These experiences build teamwork, discipline, and confidence, with many students progressing to elite bands that compete at prestigious events, including the World Pipe Band Championships and other global competitions.
